Resource classification system

Fig. 18.1[1] illustrates the entire spectrum of in-place and recoverable hydrocarbons, the total resource base that is contained within the subsurface of the Earth. The vertical scale represents the total resource base, including cumulative production, reserves, and the unrecoverable portions of the discovered and economic quantities, as well as the recoverable and unrecoverable portions of the two categories of resources.
