PetroWiki:About PetroWiki
PetroWiki was developed by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) as a vehicle for knowledge capture and sharing. The initial content for PetroWiki was SPE’s seven-volume Petroleum Engineering Handbook (PEH), published in 2006-2007. SPE recognized that this valuable industry resource could be even better with updates for the latest technology and expansion of topics that were abbreviated by the page limitations associated with print. By putting the full text of the PEH online, SPE has instantly created a resource for the entire exploration and production industry. But as SPE members and their well qualified colleagues add their knowledge and experiences to PetroWiki it becomes an even more valuable resource for learning about important topics and locating more in-depth resources as needed.
SPE is a professional society for individuals working in the oil and gas exploration and production industry globally. SPE had more than 147,000 members in more than 143 countries around the world at yearend 2015. SPE’s mission is:
- To collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
PetroWiki is integral to SPE’s mission as a vehicle to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge. While contributions to PetroWiki are limited to SPE members, after they have been reviewed by members of our champion pool, anyone within our industry, and even members of the general public, can access the content freely through PetroWiki. Sharing this knowledge broadly across the industry will help everyone who is working to produce more oil and gas to meet the world’s energy needs.
