Search for your topic
Enter the topic you are searching for in the search bar at the top right hand corner of the page. A list of pages that match your search will populate. Once you select your topic page, you can begin adding your reference/s.
Begin editing
Once you have found the page you would like to add a reference to, you can click on the "Edit" tab located on the top right hand of the page.
Select "Edit"
Select the location
Place the cursor exactly where you would like the in-line citation to appear in the text.
Select "Cite" option
Click on the "Cite" option on the toolbar at the top of the page. Then select the "Basic" option. A pop-up window will appear.
Select your publication
Open a second tab in your browser and go to OnePetro to find the article or paper you would like to add to your PetroWiki topic page. Each publication has a "Cite" option to provide you a complete citation for that specific publication.
Select "View This Citation"
After clicking on "Cite", select the "View This Citation" option from the drop down menu.
Copy the citation
After selecting "View This Citation" a pop-up window will appear with the full citation to this publication. Copy the citation including the DOI link at the end.
Return to your PetroWiki tab
Toggle back to your PetroWiki tab in your browser. Your "Reference" window should still be up.
Paste the OnePetro reference into the "Reference" window. Leave the window open.
Link your publication back to OnePetro
Highlight the OnePetro site link and click on the linking tool in your reference pop-up window.
This will open up a secondary pop-up window with the link to your publication in the box. Make sure the "External site" is in blue. This ensures you are linking to the external site listed in the reference. If your link is in red, it may have an error in it. Check that the website is correct. It should start with "https://doi.org/".
If everything looks correct, select "Done" and then select "Insert".

Click on "Save changes" at the top right hand corner of the page.

A pop-up will appear asking for a short summary of your changes. A small note like "added reference" will suffice.
