Help:Approving vs rejecting
In wiki the option to approve parts and reject others is not an option. The following is a recommendation to save the champion time and stress. Approving and rejecting changes is up to the champion's discretion and PetroWiki staff will support how the champion ultimately decides to accept or reject changes.
Approving vs. rejecting
These scenarios are considering changes someone else made i.e. another champion or general user.
Minor changes: If the edit is minor such as a misspelling, then approve the edit and then go back to the actual page and edit it yourself correcting the misspelling. Mark the edit as minor and PetroWiki staff can approve it easily.
Moderate changes: Part of the text is acceptable and the other part is not acceptable (It is NOT counterproductive or detrimental). Recommendation is to approve the edit and then going back to the actual page and remove the content in question. Do not mark the edit as minor so it can move through the moderation process.
Major changes: Part of the text is acceptable and the other part is not acceptable (IT IS counterproductive or detrimental), then reject the edit and notify PetroWiki staff so he/she can add back the acceptable part and place it into moderation.
Examples
Example one
This issue can come from multiple edits by users (different or same users) on the same topic page.
- Person A makes an edit, then
- Person B makes an edit, and then
- Person A makes an edit again
- The champion will be notified of the edit.
When you as the champion opens your task page and goes to approve or reject each edit (A,B,A) you will be presented with one choice only APPROVE or REJECT.
Example two
This issue can come from one large edit from one user covering different portions of the same topic page.
- Person "A" makes a change to the introduction.
- Person "A" added a heading to the topic.
- Person "A" adds several OnePetro articles to the heading "Noteworthy papers in OnePetro".
- The champion will be notified of the edit.
When you as the champion opens your task page and goes to approve or reject each edit (A,A,A) you will be presented with one choice only APPROVE or REJECT.
Counterproductive or detrimental
Why is this a concern in approving content? When content is approved it is visible to the general public, even if only for a short time while a minor edit or moderation is under modification.
