- Hook-up refers to a phase in the final construction activities of oil and gas production and processing facilities, whether upstream, downstream or midstream.
- It means to make a connection between components in a system.
- Hook-up is the description of tasks that comprise the final connection together of components (such as pre-fabricated equipment skids and modules amongst others) that will when complete comprise the entire production and processing facilities.
- Hook-up can also be used to describe the tasks required to connect the wellhead Christmas trees to the well flowlines.
- Hook-up includes structural, process, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumented control systems.
- Hook-up can be undertaken once the system components are positioned and installed during construction. As such Hook-up tasks can be undertaken in the fabrication yard (for an offshore facility) or at site.
