Management sizes can range from one person in a small business to thousands of managers in international organizations. In larger organizations, the board of directors defines the policy which is then carried out by the chief executive officer, or CEO.

The transportation management system is a set of strategies aimed at improving the overall performance of the transportation network without resorting to large-scale, expensive capital improvements. The system integrates methods to increase safety, efficiency, and capacity for all modes in transportation.
