The use of microorganisms for the extraction of oil from reservoirs was first suggested by 1926[1] [1] [2] [3]. This makes it one of the oldest enhanced recovery methods, however, it was neglected until the 1940s. This page aims to familiarise readers/researchers on the basics microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR), challenges faced, and trends followed over the years.
