Splitting of polarized S-waves. Shear wave splitting is because of propagation through vertically aligned fractures. An arbitrarily polarized shear wave will separate into two orthogonally polarized waves; the faster one will be polarized in a direction parallel to the fracture direction (after Hitchings and Potters13).
